I've had more issues living within the loop than at my job and while in the community however, I have never been to greenspoint mall. Now, I personally have never had any issues, I now work in "an even worse area" and again, I do not have any issues. I stayed late hours, left my car overnight (in the open, and I drive what most people would consider a nice car, the kids would actually joke around about stealing it one day), greenspoint is literally called gunspoint. I'm not going to say my job, but in a way, it involves the community and allowed me to get to know the community. I worked in greenspoint for the past few years. Plus you’re much less likely to get robbed for camera equipment. I hate that gods forsaken town with a Hell sworn passion, but it’s pretty and really does have some great photography opportunities. I lived there for a decade when I was a unit boss, and I also like photography. Lol I hope I didn’t scare you off, the town is actually pretty camera friendly. Unless there’s a sign stating “no photography” they can’t do shit, and they know it, and it pisses them off. The bosses are pussies with ZERO power outside the unit and the rank doesn’t have anywhere near the authority they think they do, but units hate people with cameras and it’s entirely possible some talking nutsack will try to intimidate you, because that’s literally all they can do. If someone wants to get really power hungry and talks about getting the police, just walk away and leave. The photos are YOUR property as soon as you take them and “State officials” have zero legal authority to stop you taking pictures from a public street of things you can see with the naked eye from said public street. They can’t make you delete photos either nor can they stop you from leaving and NOT ONE SINGLE PERSON ON ANY UNIT has the power or authority to detain you, a private citizen. You’re not going to get arrested for being a camera hobbiest though, the worst anyone will do is tell you to stop. The Walls is pretty used to photographers (and the only one worth taking pictures of IMHO), though the other units might make a fuss. Lol just get as many pics as you can before you have to stop. Just a note if you take pictures around a unit: someone might come out to talk to you, but don’t worry about it. If you go to HuntsHell, I’d highly recommended The Potato Shack, Humphrey’s, or Lindo Mexico’s tacos for lunch. Just for fun, the prison museum is actually pretty cool and worth a visit. The town square is also beautifully quaint and there’s some good shops for antiquing. Huntsville State Park is also worth a visit if you like nature photography and the cemetery is GORGEOUS. There’s a really pretty park with hiking trails that will put you behind the Byrd unit with a huge pasture field between the trails and the unit if you have a good zoom lens you can get some great shots. Same Houston State University is also right there and the campus has some nice spots. Cute little guys are doing gods work annoying the state□ Lol I love those bats because the state hates them so much! The state desperately wants to tear down the warehouse, but can’t because of the bats, so they built the bat houses, but the bats still prefer the warehouse. Dawn and dusk are great when the bats leave and return. Across the street from it are a few huge bat houses and an old, condemned warehouse where the bats live. There’s 5 units inside the “city” as well and the Huntsville (Walls, where the executions are) unit has a beautiful facade that’s been photographed frequently. There’s only a handful of stores actually open and the mall is a ghost town. The “city”revolves around the prison system and the headquarters of TDCJ is in the mall, it’s really the only thing keeping that place alive. If you’re looking for dead malls, take a trip to Huntsville. He lost an eye, she died I don’t think they ever caught the guy. I also used to know a guy and his fiancée that got car jacked at the intersection they were both shot in the head. I’ve known a few people that were robbed in the area for less. A couple of chicks wandering around with camera stuff is going to scream “rob me”.
